The NanoWhales Project

The Nanomedicine Lab regularly volunteers on research expeditions for the Pelagos Cetacean Research Institute.

In the summer of 2019, the Nanomedicine Lab raised over £11,000 in order to fund a two-week scientific expedition to study the eastern Mediterranean sperm whale population. Three of our lab members volunteered to set sail across The Hellenic Trench, the deepest area of the Mediterranean Sea, to understand the threats facing our ocean’s giants. Together with marine biologists from the Pelagos Cetacean Research Institute, the project aimed to aid in the conservation and protection of the ocean and its inhabitants.
