Dr. Douglas Hideki Nakahata
Research Lab Manager & Research Assistant
BIO
Douglas obtained his BSc degree in Chemistry at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG, Brazil). In 2016 he obtained his MSc in Inorganic Chemistry, at University of Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil). His project focused on the synthesis of N-heterocyclic ligands for the preparation of copper(II) complexes for medicinal applications. He obtained a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry in December 2019 at UNICAMP, with a thesis on metal complexes of sulfonamide ligands as antibacterial and anticancer agents. During his PhD, he completed a 9-month internship in the Farrell group at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU, USA), where he functionalized polynuclear platinum compounds with sulfonamides.
Starting in January 2021, Douglas worked as an Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG, Brazil), until September 2022. He then relocated to Spain and joined the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) as a Postdoctoral Researcher, working on gold-mediated targeting of selenoproteins and bioconjugation.
Douglas joined the Nanomedicine Lab in May 2026 as a Research Support Technician. He will contribute to experimental research projects involving a wide range of techniques, from the synthesis, characterisation and modification of nanomaterials, to molecular, histological, and immunological techniques, while ensuring the smooth daily operation and maintenance of the laboratory.
