2nd UK-KOREA International Symposium on Nanomedicine and Molecular Imaging

The Nanomedicine Lab organizes on 01/11/2012 the 2nd UK-KOREA International Symposium on Nanomedicine and Molecular Imaging. The symposium was organised in the context of the cooperative project “UK-Korea Life Sciences Focal Point Programme’’ funded by the Global Partnership Fund (GPF), an initiative of the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS) and the UK Embassy in Seoul, South Korea. The symposium presents the latest findings in Nanomedicine and Molecular Imaging both in Korea and Europe and explore collaboration opportunities with the thriving Korean Nanomedicine Community.

Neus and Zahraa at the COST Action TD1004 Scientific Meeting

Dr Neus Lozano Valdez and Mrs Zahraa-Al Ahmady delivered talks during the Scientific meeting of the COST Action TD1004 “Theragnostics Imaging and Therapy: An Action to Develop Novel Nanosized Systems for Imaging-Guided Drug Delivery held on 28-30/10/2012 in London.

Hanene is appointed Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at the University of Birmingham

Dr Hanene Ali-Boucetta departs from the Nanomedicine Lab to start her laboratory as Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at the Medical School, University of Birmingham.

Ania gives seminar during Summer School of Nanosciences (Ile-de-France)

Dr Ania Servant was invited to give a seminar during the International Summer School of Nanosciences Ile de France 2012.  Each year, Nanosciences at Ile de France propose to welcome 60 new students and young researchers in the Summer School that this year was held from 24 to 29 of June in Domaine du Tremblay, a few kilometers outside Paris.

The Nanomedicine Lab hosts Dr. Ramon Pons seminar titled: “Small Angle X-Ray Scattering as a tool for soft matter“. Dr. Pons is at the Department of Chemical and Surfactants Technology, Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain.

Katie gives seminar at UCL School of Pharmacy

PhD candidate Ms. Katie Bates gives open seminar on her work. Katie is a 2nd year PhD student working on the use of carbon nanotubes as novel gene delivery vectors against neurodegenerative diseases.

Zahraa and Neus at the 243rd ACS National Meeting, San Diego, California

Mrs Zahraa Al-Ahmady and Dr Neus Lozano Valdes were invited speakers in the 243rd ACS National Meeting held from 25 to 29 March 2012 in San Diego, California, USA. Mrs Zahra Al-Ahmady was selected to give 3 talks while Dr Neus Lozano Valdes was selected to give 2 talks and was invited by the “Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry”  to Chair the session “Liposomes and Nanoparticles in Biomedicine” of the symposium “Basic Research in Surfactants, Colloids and Nanomaterials”.

Acelya obtains PhD

Dr. Acelya Yilmazer submitted her PhD thesis in January 2012,  titled ‘Mechanisms, Obstacles and Opportunities of Artificially Enveloped Adenovirus for Safe and Efficient Gene Delivery‘. After her successful viva examination she was awarded her PhD title in March 2012.

Cyrill at the 9th International Conference and Workshop on Biological Barriers in Germany

Dr Cyrill Bussy represented the Nanomedicine Lab in the 9th International Conference and Workshop on Biological Barriers – in vitro and in silico Tools for Drug Delivery and Nanosafety Research at Saarland University, Germany. His talk focused on the use of functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes as drug delivery nanocarriers and how research on the toxicological issues of the nanomaterials can help design better biomedical tools.
